Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

"Osagyefo" (oh-SAH-jeh-foh) — an Akan title meaning "The Redeemer" — bestowed by the Asantehene, King of the Ashanti Kingdom

The title was conferred upon Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in recognition of his role in liberating the Gold Coast from British colonial rule, leading the nation to independence as Ghana on 6 March 1957 — making it the first sub-Saharan African country to break free from European colonialism. In 2000, BBC World Service listeners voted him Africa's Man of the Millennium.
